A 5 star is a category hotels must earn with great facilities and remarkably excellent customer service and attention to every detail. Unfortunately, Barcelo Oviedo Cervantes lacks what it takes to deserve a 5 star.
We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to show at the bar (the only one at the hotel) to take our order. The food came back to us cold. The alarm started to sound one night at around midnight; it woke up everybody, and the loud sound did not stop for about 20 minutes. No explanation given. Nothing of that sort. At reception, the courtesy water station with cold water infused with mint lacked glasses. Not once, but twice. The breakfast was good, but not good enough for a 5 star hotel. Our superior room was good.
What we most regret is the lack of friendliness and courtesy of a staff virtually uninterested in making a good impression. On the contrary. The reality is that something is off with Barcelo Oviedo Cervantes. The amazing kindness of the people of Oviedo we that we encountered and enjoyed every day was completely absent from the staff of this hotel.
It is unfortunate. Our experience at other Barcelo hotels (in Istanbul, for instance) was remarkably superior.
As said, Barcelo Oviedo Cervantes is more like a well appointed 3 star hotel with a staff that does not live the meaning of hospitality.
We will not come back to this hotel. To Oviedo? Of course!
