We never got to stay because hotels.com never sent our booking ....at least that’s what the owner said. He had no record of our booking. We had to scramble to try and find a place. Not a fun time. According to him it has happened before.
Stay was lovely until I came home late to find the door was locked I had been advised by the staff that the side door was always open. Thankfully the Landlord was still around (pub closed) so after banging on the window for a bit he opened it. That said all staff were friendly but I could have done with some instructions when I booked in. Food was lovely too - I would stay there again - it was just a misunderstanding
I have stayed here several times before and previously it has always been peaceful and pleasant. The room is nice and the service in the restaurant in the evening was excellent. However, after retiring to my room, above the bar I later discovered that there appeared to be a late night party going on …. and on. I phoned down to complain and the music was turned down a little but that just meant I could hear the noise of the bar more - went on till around 1 in the morning. When I had arrived I found that breakfast isn't served until 7.30. I explained that I needed to check out by 7.30 and asked if something cold could be left for so I could eat earlier. This was agreed. I came down at 7 and everything was locked up. At 7.15 someone let me into the restaurant with a sarcastic comment about being early. I was offered coffee but no food. I wasn't even asked how my stay had been. I will never stay here again.
We made our booking weeks in advance. I rang this hotel on Wednesday to confirm arrival time, checkin details and meal availability for the Saturday. I gave my full name and the full names of the person on the booking of 2 other rooms. These were recognised by Michelle as being listed in the hotel. Amicable discussion. 6 of us arrived after long journeys. No rooms available. Owner claimed mix up by previous owner. No attempt to contact us had been made. Offered to book us elsewhere. No offer to price match, told it would probably be more expensive. We chose to book our own rooms elsewhere. Luckily there was availability. Other members of our family turned away later. Others had booked in the previous day & were dumbfounded later to hear the news. They had not been informed of the problem, either. This was meant to be a happy family gathering-together. We will not be booking again. We will not be recommending this establishment. I cannot rate most of the facilities as I never got to experience them. This website requires I put something in. I chose to show my anger & disappointment in the emojis I had to select.
Lovely welcome from Andrew on arrival. He switched rooms around to give us a ground floor room for my disabled husband. Obviously newly decorated and very clean, the room and en suite shower room was ideal for our stay. The refreshments basket was well stocked and replenished during our stay, lovely touch was the bottled water also replaced daily. Only minor critisism was the pillows that were a bit lumpy but we slept well nevertheless. Bonus was good wifi too.We enjoyed a good breakfast in the mornings freshly prepared. Lunchtime sandwiches are scrumptious with side salad etc. Dinner in the evening was exceĺlent, good choice, good portions and very tasty. Wine list reasonably priced. All in all a great stay and value for money. Will certainly stay in the future. Keep up the good work Fox and Goat team!
Can't comment on any of the facilities. Despite booking several weeks in advance, we arrived at 1700 on the day to be told that our room was no longer available due to flooding. Offered a totally unacceptable alternative at a house nearby. Had to start looking for an alternative at 1700 on a Bank Holiday Saturday night !
Staff member could offer no reason why they didn't phone/email/text us to advise of the situation so we could make other arrangements. Not in line at all with usual Hotels.com experience
Pros: Room is extremely clean, charming, remodeled, and very comfortable. Breakfast is included with the price of the room and is delicious (made by one of the co-owners himself).
Under new management as of about 5 weeks ago so the old, bad reviews about management hopefully aren't applicable anymore... Aaron was extremely friendly and helpful upon check-in. Parking is free and easy. Beautiful part of town outside of the Oxford traffic.
Cons: Rooms 1 and 2 are above the bar/restaurant. Rooms 3-6 are in a separate building. We stayed in room 2 and it wasn't too loud with the bar below except for one night with a loudly-laughing group of customers till about 11:15pm. If you're turning in for the night after that time anyways then this won't be a prob for you!
We would absolutely stay here again and enjoyed our time here! We will be recommending this place to friends and family.

Excellent staff couldn’t do enough for us . Lovely breakfast. Perfect for a night over on our travels .
We stayed for two nights and had an enjoyable meal on the first evening. The room was clean and well appointed but the bed didn’t suit us. However there was no problem in moving us to another room which we appreciated.
We were looking for a base to explore Oxford from. This was spot on as there was a direct bus service to Oxford right outside the door.
Staff & Owners very friendly.
Big room, a couple of easy chairs would have been a bonus. Mattress & pillows ok, but could have been better.
We had a perfectly good stay at The Fox and Goat. The bedroom was spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. The bar was pleasant with a roaring log burner, and the food good standard pub grub. Fish and chips, ham, egg and chips etc. The menu was quite limited, but what we had was well done. The cooked breakfast was good quality with plenty of fresh coffee.
