We have to come down to Valentine and stay in Van Horn and love staying at El Captain. The staff is amazing, always friendly to our two Rotties.

The property is well staffed and clean and well maintained. Modern plumbing features are present. But I think a good portion of the high rating this place has is due to patrons valuing (historical) ambiance over comfort. The standard room was not spacious, very little closet space and a small TV. HVAC blower was typically noisy and never shut off with it being set to "auto". But the courtyard and lobby areas are quite nice. The staff was nice. It's a pleasant change from chain motels, but, sorry, I don't see it as 9 out of 10.

The courtyard was lovely and the lobby is so lovely and the staff was great. We had an excellent dinner, and I mean excellent! Slept great. Would highly recommend especially being in such a small town, it was an oasis!

A beautiful hotel. The room a king with patio was small but adorable. Had small fridge and microwave which is a plus. The place is lovely. The restaurant very nice, have a cocktail and sit in the atrium. Was decorated for fall. Great breakfast. They even have a community puzzle if you want to work on, set out

Loved this hotel. Rooms were comfortable and clean. We had a balcony to the courtyard - people were in the courtyard talking until about 11:00 so not too bad. Best hotel continental breakfast I have had and we always book where there are free breakfast. If you like history - book at Holtel El Capitan.

Exceptional!
This beautiful, historic hotel is immaculate. It's well worth the extra few dollars to stay here. We've stayed here twice, and both times it's been excellent. The dinners in the restaurant are exceptional. Last night we were entertained with live music in the gorgeous courtyard. We highly recommend staying here over the nearby chain hotels.
