We booked a queen room for one night on the August long weekend via Expedia, cost $460 inc. taxes. It was expensive (for us) but it was located near the Golden Skybridge which we had driven 5 hours for, and being the long weekend we expected to pay well above the norm, so we accept that. The good: the room was clean and had AC which worked. The bad: the AC rattled loudly all night, so we got very little sleep; the walls of our room were paper thin so we had the pleasure of hearing by our neighbours getting their freak on; the bathroom shower pressure was poor; when we went for breakfast in the morning it was normal busy but not crazy busy, however there was no coffee available and no hot water for tea, so after waiting 15 minutes we grabbed coffees driving over to Tim's on the other side of the highway.
I feel bad for giving negative reviews, the staff work hard and the front desk was kind enough to ask us how our stay was, and took genuine concern when we gave our feedback. However, Best Western charges a very premium charge whether or not it's a long weekend, and sets the expectation for the experience and service - and this was our first getaway trip of the year so despite not expecting a perfect experience, we paid for and were excited about having a good experience. There's a Prestige Hotel backing onto the Best Western, we didn't see it on Expedia when we initially went to book a hotel but we were left to rue what might have been for a one night stay in Golden. Gutted.
