Very good

Staff were very helpful, organising taxi, etc.
Room was comfortable and clean. We had a room on 2 floors, with our own outside patio space.
Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice.
An enjoyable stay.
Staff were friendly and the location of the hotel was great but the room did not feel very clean: around 40 hairs in the bathroom, an empty plastic cup and a packet of biscuit crumbs the side of the bed.
The decor is nice enough but damaged and stuck back together with sellotape. Quite strange.
We got the room on a deal - £110 instead of £210. I would have been absolutely livid if I'd paid the latter price.
This is a lovely hotel, we were pleasantly surprised! Room was very spacious with a lovely view. Nice bar area & very convenient with a bus stop right outside that takes you right into town. Would definitely stay here again.

Liked: Staff & service
We were only staying for one night but travelling with a 7 year old we weren’t impressed that neither of the tvs worked. We did flag this at reception and were informed that they had been broken for a while
Hotel had stray cats sleeping in the hotel and wandering around the property. My husband who is deathly allergic had a hard time sleeping here. Our room smelled of cat and we had to sleep with the windows open.

Disliked: Staff & service
At Breakfast they refused to serve the two of us,
ie two coffees, one poached egg on toast and scrambled egg on toast.
The choice was either full breakfast or Continental breakfast. As we are in our 80s,too much food and expensive!
Reception and staff disinterested.
I really enjoyed my return visit to this hotel, it gets the important things right. In particular excellent service from the staff, from the reception, restaurant, cleaners all only too happy to help. A special mention to Liane (not sure of spelling) who went above and beyond to help me. Strongly recommend!

Weekend in Edinburgh
Great location for visiting Edinburgh, bus stop almost outside the hotel - very short walk. We decided to walk into town which was close enough if you enjoy walking and meant we saw more of the city too.
Ate at the hotel the first night - very nice food, quick service which was good.
Hotel decor is a little tired in places - needs some TLC, otherwise decent place to stay

VERY dated and no temperature control
The room itself was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean. The heat was incredible, like sleeping above a furnace. The whole place needs some repairs and a lot of decoration.
Breakfast was disappointing, lots of options one normally would expect simply weren't there. I didn't use the restaurant as it looked to be the same menu and still as overpriced as my last visit when I realised it was not worth the price.
I really want to like the place as it is so handy for future use but it is so, so dated - I've stayed before and hoped this would be better. The staff are great, so friendly and helpful but the hotel is basking in its glory days of old.
Lovely hotel. Really friendly staff. Close links to central Edinburgh. Walkable but also around ten min in a cab. Also buses are easy and cheap to go into the city.
