REMOTE Private Mountain Lake Cabin

Are You Ready To Unplug? This cozy custom-built cabin at Buffalo Hump Lake is waiting for you.

The cabin is nestled on the southwest shore of privately owned Hump Lake, a remote alpine lake at elevation 7,900' situated at the base of Buffalo Hump Mountain in Central Idaho. She was built in 2009. The only other cabin on the lake is also owned by us so odds are VERY good you will be the only people on the lake.

The lake property was originally several gold claims patented around the turn of the century. It is now completely surrounded by National Forest and Wilderness lands. Because it was patented ground, it would have literally taken an act of Congress to release it to the Government. So it remained private property. Lucky you!

The cabin is completely off-grid with solar power, propane appliances, and a backup generator. It has one bedroom with a queen bed, along with a loft with two twin beds. Sleeps four comfortably. All linens, bedding, and fluffy towels are provided.

The kitchen includes all utensils, dinnerware, pots & pans, stove top coffee pot, and seasonings. It seats 7 comfortably with a handmade 4-chair table along with 3 barstools at the kitchen counter.

The living area is cozy and comfortable with a loveseat, recliner, extra blankets, flatscreen tv with dvd player and assortment of movies, books, cards and board games, and sketch pad and pencils.

The bathroom is a DREAM, considering where you are, and includes a full shower/tub combo and a glorious flushing toilet. The on-demand water heater allows for limitless hot showers. All water to the cabin is provided by a crystal-clear, natural artesian spring. And it's heavenly to drink.

The full wrap-around deck sports a gas bbq and outdoor seating. There's a fire pit off the deck near the lake.

The cabin comes equipped with nearly everything you may need or want, including kayaks, a rowboat, fishing poles and gear, firewood, lanterns, mosquito spray, sunscreen, first aid kit etc.

At the turn of the century, the Buffalo Hump area was once home to a mini gold rush here in Idaho. It's reported there were 10,000 people here, all hoping to strike it rich with the mountain's treasure of gold hidden in her milky white quartz veins. Not much remains today but if you look close and take the time, you can still find remnants of its heyday.

Every single direction you look is picture postcard perfect. The sunsets are 360* of glowing hillsides and mountains. The lake is so clear the moon gives a perfect reflection. And there are surely more stars up here.

Whether you are an Eco Tourist or a Big Game Hunter - This is your dream vacation. There are miles of trails and many lakes to hike to and enjoy.

The ONLY downside to this amazing vacation property is the road up the mountain. It is not for the faint of heart or 2-wheel drive vehicles. We highly recommend a 4-wheeler or side-by-side, a 4-wheel drive vehicle with an experienced driver, or a helicopter ride up.

We DO offer rides up the mountain for an additional fee.
Make yourself comfortable in this cabin, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator and a stovetop. Conveniences include a phone and a coffee/tea maker.
This smoke-free cabin features books, games, and rock climbing nearby. Amenities and recreational activities include a video library, cross-country skiing nearby, and hiking/biking trails nearby.
Guests will find features like onsite parking.

great high mountian cabin
My wife and I are in our 50s and had little issue. I looked at it as a high mountain lake, like I use to take my kids backpacking to except having a bed and toilet was great. Its also nice to come inside when bugs get a bit annoying, I didn’t think they were bad. Cabin was good for a couple and about two kids, you could get more but it would get tight. Fridge was cold and shower was hot, we didn’t use the TV or the generator, I would assume you would need the generator for watching movies. Charged things like cell phones easily, furnishings were very nice. It wasn’t spotless it’s a mountain cabin. Nice; The scenery, kayaking on lake, enjoying the area, hiking, walking around the lake, good place to run your four wheelers. Only two troubles; the pilot light went out on the water heater, I figured it out but it’s under the house, not bad to get to but some directions would help those that don’t know how. About the Road, I’ve been driving 4-wheel drive trucks for 40 years, take a 4-wheeler/ATV/Side by side. It’s not really a road for most of us, figure an hour from the camp ground by 4-wheeler, and about that, you should be comfortable and use to this kind of country, my wife did get off and walk a couple of sections. It’s a great adventure! One last comment a small map from the first main campground would helpful, some of the forest road signs are down and I didn’t recognize the right road at first. Some ATV traffic from time to time, but we had the lake to ourselves. If you’re not wanting an adventure this is not for you, if you’re looking for one I highly recommend this one.

Wonderful Mountain Cabin
The cabin is so clean and beautiful. The view is beyond description and we really enjoyed hiking to other lakes and old gold mines. Barney and Rocki are great hosts and wonderful people. We recommend you get a ride up the mountain with someone who is experienced in driving rough roads and has the appropriate 4 wheel vehicle. An amazing experience.
