I booked a room at the Coast Bastion for 1 night prior to a ferry sailing the next day. I didn't do any research which is my fault. I had never been to Nanaimo before, so I had no clue that the downtown area is so tight for such a small city. Firstly they have very limited parking out front for check in. 4 cars tops. Many one way streets so I had to circle a long route several times to find a spot. Cars were there for over 30 minutes yet it's posted at 5 minutes max. Wish the hotel would police this. I arrived in an SUV with a kayak on top to find out that they only have underground parking with 6'6" height. No other parking options. They told me there was a high rate of theft so I shouldn't park elsewhere in an outside lot. So I have to take down my kayak and bike in a thunderstorm and carry them through the lobby to a small storage room meant for luggage. I have a short 11' kayak that barely fit. Anyway, super inconvenient to have to spend 45 minutes to check in and then another 30 minutes to put the kayak back before an early morning ferry. Suggest you find a hotel on the outskirts if you have an over height vehicle. I think the hotel could accommodate for this by partnering with a secure outside lot for such cases. I just checked their website and there is no mention of their parking limitations. They claim an amenity "Feel free to bring your bike – we’re happy to store it for you". The storage room was mostly full with my 1 kayak and 1 bike.

Liked the partial harbour/ Ocean view.Sad to see homeless people camping day and night on the grass across our hotel by the Harbour...Ordered breakfast to our room had to pick it up ...no room service.Also the Ordered eggsbenedict the sauce had broken to the point of scramble... unappetizing and nad.My husband had a breakfast sandwich it was ok.We were reimbursed the breakfast as I mentioned at checkout however...did not order again the following morning Went elsewhere for breakfast No pool in this hotel. Long way to travel by two separate elevators to get from parkade to hotel lobby.
