I recently stayed at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham in Greensboro, and my experience was profoundly disappointing and concerning. The reality of the hotel did not match the outdated and misleading photos on Expedia. Despite not expecting a five-star experience, I anticipated a decent stay, which was far from what I encountered.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the overwhelming smell of stale cigarettes and urine. The lobby was in disrepair, with an abandoned breakfast area, missing ceiling tiles, and water leaking into a green tote.
Room Experiences I had to be switch 5x
Room 227: Already occupied by someone else upon arrival. The surrounding area featured visible signs of illegal activities, including prostitution and drug deals.
Room 157: Air conditioning was broken, exposed wiring, insects in the bathroom light cover, cigarette butts in the toilet, mold on the ceiling, a leaking sink, broken drawer handles, dirty sheets, and black specks on the bed.
Room 212: Broken air conditioning unit, no smoke detector, no washcloths, and insects in the bathroom light cover.
Room 254: The door release stopped working.
Room 252: Found a frozen ziplock bag of lunch meat and hamburgers in the freezer.
Pool Area:
The pool was neglected, full of algae, and not properly secured, posing a safety risk for children.
Multiple calls to Expedia resulted in temporary relocations and reassurances, but ultimately no resolution. The management team at the hotel was sympathetic but was limited
