I booked unit at the Kaha Lani Resort in Lihui, Kaua'i. I was there for 7 nights. On the day of my arrival, my airplane came in 3.5 hours before check-in so I asked if there was a chance to check in early. The assistant in the office said she would try and let me know. The uni was actually not ready for me until 25 min after the promised time.
When I asked why, she said "they are still cleaning in there because there were folks who left late. Check out time is 11:00 a.m. so that's pretty late...since she said they were still finishing cleaning, it occurred to me to ask if they had left the doors and windows open due to covid and she had to call the staff and ask them to do that. I was baffled by that.
finally, I got settled in and as I was getting ready to go to bed - mind you, this was my first vacation in 18 years - no joke, and the place is pricey, I walked into the master bedroom and heard a loud humming sound. It was late, so I was unable to do anything except sleep in the small spare bedroom that night. You know I didn't pay 4K to sleep on a twin with no view okay!?
We got no reply from the folks downstairs, so I finally left them a note. We were able to discover that the ceiling fan, just below the bed was the culprit. The man downstairs was kind enough to put the fan (ironically) in a higher setting, which eliminated the noise almost entirely.
No sooner was that fixed on a. Sunday, that starting Monday at 8:00 a.m. and every morning that week after that I heard hammering, drilling, banging, etc... Mostly I was out so it was not a big deal, but one day I had a very strong reaction to an antiemetic after a boat ride and I was comatose with fatigue all day. No nap for me, no sir. That was "allowed" from 9-5.
I find it pretty gross that an owner could charge someone so much, and never state in the contract that there could be tenants doing loud construction in adjacent units. basically, it is dishonest. There is no code that states they "can't" do that while guests are there.
If I was a part of family with a napping kid, then what? Go take your kid for a car ride?
Those issues made my stay way less enjoyable.
Aside from that, as I shared, everything was very clean, the kitchen was well stocked for one who likes to cook and eat in (pans/pots/dishes/measuring items/etc..), the towels were clean, the view was beautiful, parking was easy, but make sure you take note, there is no AC here - only fans - and office is only open from 10 -3.
