Need to communicate better
Prior to our arrival the Family I had booked was damaged by a water leak. Which I fully understand that things like this happen. However we only find out when we come to check in that there are no more family rooms and we now have 2 separate rooms, albeit next door to each other. We were told when checking in that someone should have called us. The only communication I received from the hotel was the standard email sent by most hotels prior to a visit. Whilst having 2 separate rooms would be a problem for most family, it is for us when the children are aged 6 & 8, and the 6 year old is deaf. I put our case to the receptionist who could only offer us a free soft drink by way of compensation.
I appreciate things happen that are out of the hotels control. But not communicating is within the control of the hotel. Had they called or emailed I could have made them aware of our situation and better arrangements could have been made.
In the end my wife shared with one child and I shared with the other. Not great when spending 3 nights and having to go back and forth between rooms.
