I chose to stay at Hotel (Camping) Zeus at the recommendation of a friend, who has stayed there for years when working at Pompeii. Except for a few nights when I had to tolerate a loud neighbor, the room and grounds were quiet. The facilities were clean and in good repair, with excellent housekeeping and a staffed, friendly, and helpful front desk. I liked that the room had a mini-fridge, so I could keep some drinks, yogurt, fruit, and left-overs. The room also has a mini-safe to stash one’s travel docs and electronics.
People stay in the area for convenient access to the Cirvumvesuviana and the main entrance of Pompeii. Unfortunately, most nearby restaurants close at 6:00 pm, so you need to stock your mini-fridge, walk into town, or up and around the corner to the few nearby restaurants for dinner.
My reservation came with breakfast every morning, which was very basic, continental: yogurt, espresso or cappuccino, cakes, croissants, ham or salami, and bread. The “juice” was really just a sweetened water drink. That said, the staff were very nice. For a more substantial breakfast, the bar/restaurant Sgambati (owned by the same people?) serves omelettes, in addition to a regular menu of appetizers, salads, panini, pasta, and pizzas.
Overall, I was very satisfied staying at Hotel/Camping Zeus and look forward to returning.
