I arrived at Doubletree Hotel around 9am, and took the subway from JFK. It was the cheapest option getting to the hotel, it’s walkable. They have a subway entrance/exit on 42nd ST. We tried doing an early check in but they didn’t have rooms available at the time and that’s okay. We were able to leave our luggage’s with the bellman and walk around until our room was ready.
The area around Doubletree was walkable and close to Times Square. There is a lot of foot traffic so it was safe for the most part. You will prolly have homeless try to walk up to you but tell them no thanks and they leave you alone for the most part.
We checked in after 1pm, lobby was getting packed but we were able to get our room and settle down after feeling jet lagged. Room was tidy and clean, small from what I was use to but that wasn’t a problem for me. The staff made it feel like I was home. Housekeeping cleaned it all 5 nights of our stay and she did a very good job. The front desk was very helpful when it come to getting things delivered to the room. Although when it got busy you would have to most likely go down stairs to front desk if it was urgent.
The only thing that was a minor problem was the elevators. I mean there is only 4 elevators and about 36 floors to get to. I was patient enough but most people aren’t. Overall I would book this hotel again. 4/5 stars
