Smaller resort which is what I look for when booking a vacation. Very clean, friendly staff and beautiful beach. Gated community so I felt safe and it’s a 15 min walk to 5th Ave. Good food selection and I would stay again.

The property was fine. Staff was very nice. The surrounding area was safe. The beach was pretty. The food was below average. Every meal we had at the buffet was luke warm at best. The actual restaurants on property were slightly better, but not by much. Apparently the other Viva property has more options but you have to make reservations for those and we could never get in (even when trying to book days in advance). If you are looking for a “lively” time - this resort is not for you. I was very surprised to see limited people down at the bar in the evenings. It was very quiet. My goal for the trip, was to get away from the cold and relax, so it did the trick. But it’s likely that first vacation that I lost weight instead of gained!

The property was overall pretty clean, although our room’s closet smelled musty. We thought the food at the buffet was very good and at the a la cart restaurants it was excellent. We liked that they all had a casual atmosphere and dress code. There were plenty of activities to do at the resort, as well as at their sister resort Viva Maya. The one big disappointment was the quality of the liquors at the bars. The spirits were bottom, bottom shelf as far as quality. I asked if I could pay extra to be able to get served the Viva Members liquors but they said that it wasn’t possible. Overall the resort was a good value for the money paid.

The food at the resort is excellent, and the restaurant staff puts sincere effort into crafting each dish. Additionally, guests can make reservations at other Viva restaurants, adding variety to the dining experience. The service in the restaurant is commendable. The rooms are spacious, though the bathrooms could use some improvement, particularly due to the older tiles. The beach is beautiful, lined with plenty of palm trees that provide shade. The beach chairs are comfortable and well-placed under the trees, making it enjoyable to relax on the clean, seaweed-free shoreline. Overall, this is a good resort offering great value for the price.

Nice sized hotel as not too big. Lovely pool area and beach. In the pool area it would be nice if there were more umbrellas for shade as we travelled with a baby. Buffet was excellent every meal. Staff were very friendly. The rooms would have benefited from a de humidifier as it was very humid and therefore impossible to dry any swimwear. Overall had an amazing stay and would go back again.

We’ve been to playa and stayed at several resorts in the playacar area. Viva Azteca was not a good one. The good things about it are that it is on a beautiful beach, it is walkable to town and it is in a safe gated community. The not so good. There were very little food options. All of the food was bland and luke warm. Several in our group got sick from the food, which has not happened at other resorts. The staff was not the friendliest like at other resorts. They keep the buffet closed till 12:30pm for lunch (that is late for lunch) and dinner Buffett is not open till 6:30pm that is late. We enjoyed our time there but would try something else next time.

Good location good resort set up nice beach area but no show no entertainment and the biggest problem is the food, it’s really bad . We went to Cancun 20 times or more but this resort has the worse food and me and my family are satisfied with just basic but the administration needs to do something about it. Please check reviews on other resorts , we will never go to this one

The property is super clean and room was spacious. Bracelet keys are awesome. Enjoyed “special” coffee time from 4 to 5 in the afternoon. No reservation policy at restaurants was a welcome change. Will be staying again.

I give it an average review because while it is a good value priced “resort” the food has really degraded. This was our 5th trip to either Maya or Azteca in 4 years and probably our last. Would rather pay more for better food. Had dinner almost every night on 5th avenue. “Specialty Restaurants” on site have REALLY gotten worse.

All-inclusive goes a long way at this property. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the activities and drinks included were amazing, and the sous chef and dining staff went out of their way to make sure we were accommodated due to dietary restrictions. We had the most amazing experience. We would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel itself is an older one and some of the stairs and inner court yard are showing signs of wear and tear. The area around the hotel is beautifully maintained and clean. The staff is courteous and helpful, though not all of them speak English. We stayed in a room very close to the lobby bar and theater. Each night the noise, music, and dancing kept us awake sometimes till after midnight. The buffet has a large selection, trying to please people from all different countries. The Ala Carte restaurants no longer require a reservation which is nice. The beds are too firm and the pillows were flat. We had sore hips and necks each morning. And the thermostats were impossible to figure out. We were either freezing or throwing covers off because it was too warm. Also there needs to be a guide for the TV on how to change the languages.
