We though the hotel would be right on the lake, however it was up some very steep roads, so that was disappointing. At roughly 9 minutes drive form Queenstown CBD, it was too far to walk comfortably.
The hotel room (the Wakatipu Gold Suite) was quite old fashioned, however to it's credit it was very clean and tidy. The hotel could be quite nice, but it needs a huge tidy up in the gardens and the rooms need updating - they feel quite oppressive with the dark paneled wood ceilings (at least our suite felt like that). The mattress was old so wasn't very comfortable. Also, there was no air conditioning in our suite (it was cool weather so that was no problem).
On a positive note, the young man working there was very polite. As there was no phone in the room (and we didn't have roaming on our mobiles) he lent us a mobile for us to be able to call cabs. I must also comment on the generous toiletry supplies in the bathrooms, very thoughtful.
We wouldn't stay here again, as it wasn't to our taste, was too far from town, and was difficult to access comfortably by foot due to steep road, but the young man working there (Rodman) was nothing but kind, welcoming and helpful.
