Ignore the whiny reviews. Yes, there’s a trade-off between low cost and amenities, but for a short stay in an expensive and busy city, it’s worth it

We cant really comment on how comfortable this hotel was as we didn’t spend one night in there. We stayed with our son instead so will comment on our first visit and initial impressions. On arriving we had a little trouble locating the entrance, its on the main street right next to A &W and is just a black door with sign, we had the codes for the doors and instructions as soon as we landed and was greeted and helped by manager as soon as we got there, he kindly helped carry our cases up the two flights of very steep stairs (no elevators). The room itself was quite dull even with the light on and we had a problem with our window that was sorted out as soon as we mentioned it. The facilities in the room were dated and could do with being updated, the toilet inside the shower area was fine when we got there but as soon as the husband had a shower there was a strong smell of urine from around the floor area. The bedding was clean but there were blood stains on the mattress protector, We cant comment on the quality of the sleep as I said we didn’t stay there. Not the best location on Queen street, would I stay there again or recommend, no. You get what you pay for with this hotel, if we hadn't of been able to stay with our son I think I would of booked into a different hotel.

This was a solid placs to stay. Property owner keep the rooms clean and there is a mini-fridge & micdowave in each room. There is a flight of stairs to the first floor of rooms, and the fewest people in each room is 4 ppl in bunk beds. Bring your own towel, as they are not provided. Really safe thoigh, separate front door codes and individual room codes. Great for a budget stay!!

The hotel does not allow children it wasn't stated before booking. My wife is breastfeeding and was refused entry just because she had a baby who was breastfeeding. Their customer care is very poor

At first, I was really worried about staying here based on the reviews. However, after staying here, I couldn’t have been more happy. Your stay will be perfectly fine as long as you follow the instructions given to you. My only issue came through the Expedia app not letting me know the Palmerston was trying to contact me, despite having notifications set up. That is still an issue. I recommend always checking your Expedia app whether you have been notified or not. The Palmerston is a basic place to stay. I have a feeling a lot of the negative reviews came from people expecting way more, as if they were staying at a hotel three times the price. You get what you pay for, and that was fine for us. My husband and I stayed for over a week and we found the staff to be perfectly pleasant when we saw them. The street outside was noisy at times, but that’s what we expected from the middle of Toronto. Everything in the room worked perfectly and the bed was very comfortable. I genuinely looked forward to going back each night. For context my husband and I booked a private room with a double bed and its own toilet and shower cubicle. I cannot speak for the multi-bedded rooms where multiple people and groups can stay. All in all, the next time we come to Toronto, we will be booking here again. You cannot beat the price or the access to public transport. We were able to get everywhere we wanted, which was incredibly important for us as we came from the UK and I was seeing family.
