Hostels are fairly new to India, so Zostel is doing a great thing by growing their availability. Everything is very well kept, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner but they're no worse than other good hostels I've stayed in. The location is good, can be a bit hard to find but it's right in the old city but a bit off the main roads which offers a lot of peace compared to other places to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooftop restaurant is great, serves good food (I ate there quite a bit in the few days I stayed) and offers incredible views of the lake/palaces/etc. Wifi was generally accessible and signal was good. There's generally a good ambiance -- opportunities to socialize, and also spaces to get some work done. If I had one suggestion for the hostel, it would be to think about making the entryway a bit more of a focal point as a hang-out spot -- one of the main reasons I stay in hostels is to meet folks and socialize, so I appreciate when the spaces are set up properly for this to happen, and I heard others also feeling like there were other guesthouses in Udaipur which offered more in this respect. Still, I made several new friends in the hostel, a few of whom I hung out with in other cities, so all good. Overall a great experience.
