It’s a charming old hotel. And given its age old is fine, but the walls in my bedroom were in need of a good paint job. They were marred and it looked like it hadn’t been painted in many years.
We were a little taken aback when we first saw the room. This is a building from 1876 and there was much about the room that still said "1876". We were in a third floor room and the room had obviously received renovatioin - the plumbing was in really good shape and the HVAC appeared to be recently redone. The room had recently been repainted even though the plaster was cracked and peeling in some places. Renovation is very difficult in these situations. All in all, the room was fine even if not up to Holiday Inn Express levels. On a side note, we are not spring chickens; and there were many stair steps up to our third floor room. We would definitely do it again.
I loved the Hotel. The staff were wonderful. We would stay there again. Disappointed there was no tv in the room, but a minor inconvenience. Otherwise, it was perfect!
This property is very old and charming. My room was spacious and very clean. Aside from having to walk up several flights of steps to my room (but the view made it worth it) I enjoyed everything about this property.
Such a perfect way to experience Cape May! Staff was really helpful and friendly and the rooms were very clean. Loved the bar and front porch with live music! Would definitely stay here again!

The Chalfonte is an old rickety hotel that's very flawed but beautiful. Great vibe. Like staying in a museum. The issues that arise come from a lack in modern conveniences. The AC barely works. There's no drinking water. No ice. No mini fridge (except for an old little fridge in the Presidential suite.) No parking lot (gotta find a free spot in the neighborhood.) And simply dropping off your luggage out front in an illegal spot could result in a parking ticket. The majority of rooms have no bathroom. No shower. No hairdryer. No ironing boards. Shared bathrooms are available side by side in the middle of each long hallway. It's a lot to give up, when you consider similar priced rooms at other hotels closer to the beach that provide all of the above as they should. Recommend coming for the bar, the porch, the music, but not the stay.

Staff was not friendly and as guests we did not feel welcome
Appreciated staying in the Winters Quarters after arriving to the hotel after dinner and hearing the music and noise from the wedding on Saturday night.
Friendly and accommodating staff, terrific breakfast, nice small bar, walking distance to center of town and beach. Room was small but cute and comfortable. I look forward to a return visit.
