Rustic Retreat on Mercer Lake

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

This lakefront, secluded, quietly rustic Florence vacation rental is a great place to unplug and relax while taking in the spectacular views of Mercer Lake. Bring the whole family to enjoy a restful trip away from the worries of daily life from the comfort of your own deck and private dock on the lake.

Your vacation home is five miles northeast of town, in a heavily forested area right on the edge of Mercer Lake, so you won't hear the highway or any of the noises of the bustling small town of Florence. The lake is just a few steps from your house, but within a 15-minute drive are a myriad of other great places to visit, including Old Town Florence, the beach, Heceta Head lighthouse, and some of the best sand dunes in the state.

The owners of this house have lovingly decorated it with a nautical theme and seaside colors, so you will surely feel at home here.

When you drive to this home, especially through the mile or so of dirt road, you will be amazed how beautiful the area is. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom house has enough beds to sleep nine people, though the loft would be a great space for a few extra children as long as they bring sleeping bags. Two dogs are also welcome, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply and all dogs must be kept on leashes when outside the home.

On the main floor, the upper level, walk through the cozy and bright living room and choose your favorite seat to watch the lake. This room is a great place to sit and chat with your guests and enjoy the view. Because this house has no TV (though it does have Wifi and a telephone), it is a great place to take a group of people and enjoy a few days without all the electronic devices we spend so much time with. Grab a board game or book off the shelf, or bring along some of your own favorites, and spend an evening appreciating each others' company!

Just past the living area is a dining table that overlooks the lake, as well as a full kitchen. This kitchen has a stove, oven, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, and various pans and dishes, so you will have everything you may need to cook up a nice meal. You could even go fishing in the lake or nearby Siuslaw River, clamming during low tide, or crabbing off the South Jetty, and cook up a fresh seafood dinner in the kitchen!

Also on the main floor is a full bathroom, a bedroom with a full-size bed, and another sleeping area with a queen-size bed. A loft, accessible with a sturdy wood ladder, provides a great place for children to play games or have a campout in their sleeping bags at night.

The lower level of this home has another full bathroom and a washer and dryer, so you won't have to worry about getting your clothes wet and sandy at the beach. You will also find a large bedroom with two queen beds and a standalone twin bed, making this a quiet and comfortable place to sleep after a day spent outside breathing in the fresh air. Please note this bedroom is completely separate from the main living space - guests have to take an outdoor staircase to access it.

Just outside both levels of this house is a gorgeous private deck! The upper deck is ideal for sitting and watching the sun reflect off the lake, and you could even bring lunch outside and eat on the picnic table while listening to the breeze rustle through the fir trees. The lower deck opens to the grassy yard, where you will find a firepit for you to use.

Walk down a few stairs to reach your private dock - great place to go swimming or paddle around the lake! Mercer Lake is very quiet and a safe place to swim, so fans of the water will love it here. Even if you don't love swimming, just being near this gorgeous lake and breathing the fresh air will clear your head and leave you feeling at ease.

When you're ready to visit the attractions near Florence, you have many options waiting for you. For people who prefer to be more active, there are two fantastic golf courses, numerous lakes and the Siuslaw River to use for boating and fishing, hiking trails, and amazing sand dunes. Just five minutes south of town you can go on an amazingly fun sand rail tour of the dunes.

Those who are less fond of being active on a vacation will also find plenty to do. The beach is always alluring, and North Jetty is a great area for an easy stroll. Be sure to leave energy to walk along Bay Street, where there are fabulous restaurants, shops, a boardwalk along the river, and a weekend farmers market during the warmer months.

Although Florence isn't famous for its nightlife, the Three Rivers Casino is a fantastic place to spend a few hours. If you visit toward the end of May, the Rhododendron Festival will be in full swing, which means a carnival, car show, parades, kite festival, and blooming rhododendrons everywhere in town.

If a restful vacation to a charming coastal town is just what you need, this gorgeous lakefront Central Coast vacation rental is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature.

Rustic Retreat
Overall we had an amazing vacation here, however a few things i was surprised by. The house is not red, its more of a grey, and the downstairs has a separate key code to enter that is easy to miss in the emails you receive the day before check in, but it is there (just be patient, lol). The gravel road getting up to the house is less than ideal, and a gate you have to get out and open to get down the driveway (that was never mentioned in the listing). Breathtaking views !! Easy access to the water !! Quiet surroundings !! Comfortable beds !!

Cute old fashioned cabin, basic necessities. Do make sure you review check in instructions and take pictures of instructions, codes before leaving town and having cell phone reception. There is wi-fi once you get in. Once we got in, was a beautiful stay. Would love to stay here again.

20+ minutes to property from heart of florence
Not an honest description of how rough the road is to property, and its not just the driveway as listed. The gate to property is a stressful after the rough drive to it, there are 2 keypads and neither one work with code given and no information given to say that the gate code boxes are fake and there is a carabiner type chain that you open to get through. Absolutely nothing listed about this! Wifi information is not what Vacasa sends you in your arrival email, had to contact someone and they were quick on response to me but they didnt have correct information either! Finally found a tiny booklet on table that had wifi info, which was completely different than listed! Ugh. The home is charmingish, but very musty and most of sheets had stains on them. Bedroom bed upstairs very uncomfortable and slept in a hole. You cannot access downstairs from inside upstairs, you have to go outside. Only 2 of the 4 burners work on the stove. Good thing we didnt do alot of cooking there. The view and access to water was only amazing part if this property. Waking up to the peaceful ripples of the lake was breath taking, until you had to turn around and go back inside to dinghy smelling home. All and all I guess you get what you pay for, and your paying for the beautiful view. We will not return to this property again.

A lake house that fits your basic needs!
We had a wonderful stay at this house! The view and dock were amazing! The water access was very secluded and well worth the challenging drive in which we were accustomed to with where we live currently and didn’t mind. A tv and dishwasher would be nice additions but it fulfilled our needs just fine. We appreciated the stay!

Fun stay
Beautiful location, the price was great. Yes it's dated and a little run down, but it's got everything you need, well equipped kitchen, lots of beds. We brought our inflatable kayaks and having the dock right there was perfect. We had a great time.

Picturesque setting on a lake
Unexpected location, up hills and back down single lane dirt roads ending in a beautiful lake setting. Beware of neighbor that is watching every move. Dated but comfortable and roomy cabin. Bbq propane was empty ☹️

Great House, Hostile Neighborhood
This was an AWESOME stay. While our group was a little apprehensive about the house given the reviews left prior to our trip, we later found that it was perfect in size and had an awesome location for its price. There is definitely a lack of amenities, and also being without WiFi was a little frustrating at times, but you can definitely make the most out of what you have at this place. Being on the lake was amazing with the fire pit, as well as being close to the sand dunes and beach. The only thing we had issues with was the next door neighbor, who was pretty hostile and passive aggressive towards us. Other than that, the stay was great. Had a blast.

Honestly, i am rather disappointed in this stay. The parking area is about 3-5 inches of mud and hard to turn around out of. The stairs to get to the house are covered in 2inches of mud and super super slick. There are only a couple gutters that keep the rain from pouring onto you up top and the top deck is not sealed so the bottom deck is soaked at all times and puts on top of you. There's no light facing the stairs (that are outside) to get to the bottom level. The bottom deck is very slick and my pregnant sister almost fell multiple times. There is a section (about 4x8) of siding that is missing and only has plastic to cover the outside wall which makes downstairs rather breezy. The door to the bottom room has a 2 in gap below it allowing bugs and creepy crawlers in. There is wires sticking out of the bottom heater that only has the end wire covers on it and not the actual heater cover that keeps the wires out of reach. All in all i would not recommend this to anyone. We paid over $650 for 3 nights and have had better beds and better maintained property in ghetto motels. Not impressed at all

Feeling Cheated
While the view of the lake was as promised, the house itself left us feeling cheated. Upon arrival, the smell of mildew met our nose. The house feels very old and cobwebs were on the windows. As we descended the staircase to the lower level, we noticed that it had rotted and the staircase had to be reattached to the house at least 7-inches lower because the exterior wall of the house was rotten. Thus the staircase was uneven. There are wires exposed in the baseboard heating. There is approximately a two-inch gap under the exterior door downstairs. Our daughter, who is very fearful of spiders, found a large spider with babies on it's back in the upstairs bathroom. The privacy blinds for the bedroom off of the living room were not sufficient as they were missing about half of the slats. Also missing, the entire blind on a window for the downstairs bedroom. In all of this, my biggest complaint is that the rental was advertised as including the internet. When it comes down to it, we registered from 147-300 MB max. This isn't enough to be effective and useful. We have two high school students that could not access their classes as planned so they were forced to get behind in their work. Our cell phones were out of range and without internet or tv there it felt very primitive. This may have been acceptable to my husband and I, however, our girls were extremely unhappy.

This place is nothing but a great view of the lake.
The road going to the property is very steep and slick. SUV strongly suggested. The neighbor was sure to exercise his right to ensure we knew the parking rules : / Be sure to get there before dark. There were no lights left on for us and there were spider webs with spiders in the bathroom sink. Also multiple other spiders found i.e. in bathtub and washing machine. There were multiple fruit chew candies left on the floor of the main room that my dog found. The beds were not so fresh and very uncomfortable. The porch was covered with pine needles so they ended up all inside the house. Overall I felt it was way over priced and not well kept. We left early.

Rustic family getaway
The property location is ideal for families. Great fishing right off the dock. We caught over 50 fish, catch and release of course. The canoe is not useable for there is a hole in it so that was a bummer. The house is older and in need of a makeover and some TLC. I preferably liked the lower floor disconnected from upper level it is great for kids to have their own space and bathroom. I would consider booking again if the furniture was updated. We loved the area. The housekeeper was very nice, no problems with parking, yes it is a shared driveway but you have enough room to park. Overall we had a nice time and enjoyed ourselves.

Wonderful views and nice dock. rustic cabin with awkward layout.
Wonderful views on a quiet side of Mercer Lake. Rickety splintery stairs, overgrown, to a nice dock. Be careful! House has musty cabin smell downstairs which is not unusual but think there might be water damage issues given state of roof and gutters and evidence of other deferred maintenance. Nice hand-painted details and faux finishing but investment in updating would be more appreciated. Floor plan including no connection between first and second floor is a challenge. Lastly, that neighbor is really a concern. To decrease interaction with him over this ridiculous shared driveway issue- change the signage from "Visitor Parking" (x3) which sounds like a suggestion and a courtesy, to a more directive "no parking" because apparently it's his septic drainage area(?) and parking there is a trigger for him.

Not very clean.
Well it was a cute and cozy cabin... We had to call and complain because it was garbage scattered all over outside. The screen door was broken, the window screen was broken, and the bad smell of urine. The porch was littered with sticks and leaves. We had to call and complain to have a maintenance person come clean it all up.

Unfortunately Neighbor made this stay negative experience
Too bad the neighbor continues to make such a nice place very negative. (Other reviews mention neighbor as well ) He actually came onto the deck ( which is very invasive due to orientation of access door) to say he wanted my car moved. The entire parking situation allows neighbor to use this rental driveway but does not allow renters to use his driveway to simply back up for a safe turn around. Too bad. I will not return because of neighbor.

Amazing location! Beautiful and remote!
This vacation home is located in a quiet, remote area on beautiful Lake Mercer. The 1.7 mile drive on the all-dirt road was absolutely gorgeous! It was as if you were driving through a fern grotto on your way to an exclusive resort destination. A four-wheel or All Wheel drive is a must as the dirt road can become rather muddy in inclement weather. We highly recommend that you plan your arrival in the daylight hours as there are a few tricky turns. While proper signage exists, it is somewhat difficult to decipher, even during the day. Upon arrival at the cabin, your vehicle will be situated in a short parking area - which is basically the end of the home's one-lane driveway. There is very little room to turn your vehicle around, but, it CAN be done without utilizing the neighbor's driveway, which is strongly discouraged. The interior of the cabin is definitely rustic. There is no TV, but there IS wi-fi, which is useful if you bring your own computer. We would also strongly recommend you contact your cell carrier prior to your arrival to have your wi-fi calling activated in case of emergencies, as the cell coverage in this remote area is very sketchy at best. The kitchen is very well set up and stocked with everything you may need for an extended stay (we stayed 10 days and had everything we required). There are two full bathrooms and a laundry area that are acceptable and functional. There is a new BBQ on the top deck with a side burner that's great for cooking your fish without stinking up the house. The reason I didn't give this vacation home 5 stars is due to the beds. In the one bedroom on the main floor, the mattress was very soft and had little support. Conversely, the other bed located on the main floor - which was located in a "room" I wouldn't call a bedroom as there was no closet and no door (it has vertical blinds for privacy), was too firm and needed replacing. Additionally, the queen sized bed downstairs had a large 'sink hole' in the middle of it and it too should be replaced. While this sounds very negative, the beauty of the area and the peace that we experienced while here far outweighs the less than ideal bed situation. Additionally, the price just can't be beat. We were VERY happy with this location and hope to be able to return sometime in the near future.

Rustic Charmer
Our family of 9 greatly enjoyed our time at the home. With two dogs the gated deck was wonderful. The deck does have a few soft spots at the main entrance of the deck that we worried about someone foot going through. I would highly recommended getting it repair before it actually happens. While it's not the flashiest house on the lake it's affordability greatly out weighed the rustic lived in vibe. The roads are great for long walks (think hiking). Our biggest complaint was that unlike the docks around us our dock would get it's sun mostly in the mornings which is a bit of a bummer if you want to enjoy the water/sunshine in the afternoon. However the water is still warm enough to enjoy if you paddle your float out to catch the sunshine. As per other reviews the neighbors are sticklers about their portion of the driveway but if you stay past the signs they will leave you alone. We were also easily able to fit more than three cars in our designated space. Overall it was a great experience and we would rent again.
