'Oak' Yurt in West Sussex countryside

Summary:
Luxurious Yurt the heart of the South Downs National Park - enjoy peace, comfort and freedom amidst the breathtaking beauty of the "green and pleasant land" of unspoilt Sussex countryside.

NOTE: If Oak Yurt is not available for the dates you want please scroll down to the 'description' below for links to our other listings

The Space:
Hidden in a meadow known as Night Pastures, Oak Yurt is hand crafted using hardwood that once grew just ½ a mile away. Natural light from an oak stable door and three picture windows complete with blinds flood the space and, if you want to get even closer to nature, the stable doors can easily be opened to let fresh air and the sounds of the countryside stream in. A luxurious double bed, and two optional single beds complete with fresh linen and chest of drawers makes your rural retreat a home from home. On those rare occasions when the sun doesn't shine, the natural insulation of wood floor, wool rugs and the warmth of a wood burning stove will keep you blissfully comfortable.

Outside, the Yurt deck has a fully-equipped camp kitchen (gas stove [with grill], cups, plates, cutlery, utensils, pots, frying pans, cafetiere etc.), barbecue, washstand and fresh water tap, plus table and chairs - the perfect setting for glorious, memorable alfresco meals and moonlit dinners. Nearby, your safe and snug ‘en-suite’ bathroom hut, complete with flushing loo, Victorian sink, towels and a large walk in hot shower means you can still enjoy the comforts of home whilst out in the field!

** Please note that we now have 4 Yurt camps on our farm. If Oak is not available at the times you want, please also try one of our other camps by copying and pasting the links below into your browser address bar.

Guest Access:
A luxurious double bed, and two optional single beds complete with fresh linen makes your rural retreat a home from home. On those rare occasions when the sun doesn't shine, the natural insulation of wood floor, wool rugs and the warmth of a wood burning stove will keep you blissfully comfortable.

The Neighborhood:
Originally a hunting lodge for King Charles II, Lower Lodge Farm's 3,000 acres of rolling fields and ancient woodland are interlaced with ponds and brooks that feed the River Lod. Recognised as a corridor of environmental significance, it is home to a diverse collection of flora and fauna including; cuckoos, kingfishers, deer, badgers, rare orchids, mistletoe and, if you're lucky, even multicoloured rabbits. Amongst the farm's many treasures are woodland walks, streams bristling with fish, ancient woodland clearings and the ruins of an iron forge from the earliest days of the industrial revolution. To cap it all, amidst all this beauty is the privately owned 12th century Shulbrede Priory where Parry wrote the score for Jerusalem. From the comfort and tranquility of Oak Yurt you too will share, understand, and be at one with the "green and pleasant land" that inspired the stirring music for Jerusalem, the nation's favourite hymn.

Getting Around:
On site parking is available to all guests and taxis from Haslemere (48 mins from Waterloo) or Liphook (58 mins from Waterloo) station are easy to book from the cab ranks outside. If you want to explore the pubs and countryside beyond walking distance, we can hire you bicycles from £20 per day - please arrange this in advance to ensure availability (details for hire will be sent to you with our welcome e-mail).

Other Things to Note:
Oak Yurt is located on a working family farm so please respect the Country Code at all times. There is also a large pond nearby the yurt that you would need to be aware of if travelling with small children.

There are many wonderful things the countryside has to offer and when you're tired at the end of a hard day's play we have plenty of board games, maps and books to while away the hours.

We can also provide, a Travel cot free of charge (one available please book in advance), an extra bundle of wood cut to size for your wood burning stove at £10.

If you fancy a break from cooking, a dinner "Room Service" is available on request by contacting the Rising Sun Milland at least 24 hours in advance.

If you're arriving by train, it's advisable to get your shopping done in advance, as nearest shop to the farm is 10 min drive.

Once you have checked in, you will be left undisturbed to be at one with nature… that is of course unless you need help with anything in which case someone is always on hand!

Great place to get away from it all
Right from the initial booking everything was handled very professionally. We received plenty of emails informing us of directions and arrival details and the site COVID-19 policy. We arrived a day late due to extremely bad weather but was welcomed on site by the site manager when we finally arrived. The site manager was extremely pleasant and showed us everything we needed, including extra logs for our fire pit on the second night. The Oak Yurt was extremely comfortable and had plenty of space for a family of 4 (2 teenagers). Everything was extremely clean, including the toilet facilities and the kitchen area. Plenty to explore, with nice little walks down to the stream with some lovely little water falls. On the second day we took the long route up Greenwood Hill and down through Crab Copse to Fernhurst where we found the very nice local pub with great food called The Rising Sun. In summary, Night Pastures is the perfect site to get away from it all and have a peaceful few days in the stunning countryside.
