I experienced several inconveniences during my stay. First, the shower gel dispenser did not function properly. Additionally, the lights in the bedroom could not be turned off without unplugging them. The quality of the toilet paper was quite poor, some of the worst I’ve encountered. The in-room safe malfunctioned repeatedly, not locking every time I entered my code, which required a locksmith to resolve. Furthermore, the overall condition of the room is in need of an update. The furniture was visibly worn, with scratches, and the paint on the wood surfaces in both the bathroom and bedroom appeared faded and outdated. This was a stark contrast to the common areas, such as the restaurant and reception, which gave a much more polished impression compared to the dated appearance of the guest rooms. Cleanliness was also a concern; for example, there was a spilled coffee cup in the elevator, and the hallways did not feel particularly clean. The lamp hanging over the table in my room was too low, causing my friend to repeatedly hit his head on it, and it was also torn. While I’ve enjoyed staying at this hotel in the past due to its convenient location and friendly staff, the current state of the rooms is disappointing. I hope management considers a revamp to bring the guest rooms up to the standard of the common areas. After voicing my concerns, the staff promptly responded by removing the facility fee and the upgrade charge, which I found to be very professional.

I would like to start with how it’s unfortunate that this place has potential to be a 4 or 5 star hotel, but their fraudulent scam they’re running with charging hotel guests a $500-$600 smoking fee when people who don’t actually smoke of any kind, cigarettes, vaping, or weed is what ruined the quality of this hotel and its service. Our stay was exactly two weeks ago and checking in was smooth as they allowed us to check in earlier around noon, which was great. We showered, got ready, used the iron to iron our clothes, and used my hair blow dryer/curler to do my hair before going out to explore the city. We left the hotel around 1-1:30 pm to grab something to eat. The room itself was nice and the location was optimal. We didn’t come back to the room until 5:30 pm and they had a small window of “happy hour—wine” where they offered two bottles of wine in their lobby for their guests. We then grabbed dinner and spent only one night at this hotel, The James Nomad. When we checked out on Sunday around noon, it was then brought to our attention that they were charging us a $500-600 fine for smoking that was supposedly detected in the room between 1:25 pm all the way until 2:20 pm. This was baffling and shocking to hear as both my husband and I are non smokers of any kind. As well, we were not even in the room at that time as we had left the room around 1:30 pm so this was just impossible. Please beware if you stay here in case they try to “charge” you for this smoking fee.

It was incredibly noisy even for NYC. Gave us a wheel chair bathroom but the tub was broken and difficult to figure out the tap fixture.

The room was larger than expected, which was a bonus as we were traveling with two children. Bed was comfortable, however, the couch bed for the children was the complete opposite. Rooms could use a deep cleaning and some updating. Restaurant on property served terrible breakfast, recommend eating elsewhere.
