the room is small and quaint. the beds we’re super comfortable. the staff was very friendly. parking is pretty close and you’re right inunion square so there’s lots of food and shopping options near by. i was nervous about no ac on the 10th floor but the room was comfortable with the ceiling fan going. the building is very old so wouldn’t recommend for someone who is handicapped but we had no issues

I've stayed here several times before, was delighted to see that they had a room for one night just before a big event in town. Room was clean and comfortable. Welcome was friendly, and I love that they offer cookies, tea and water in the lobby.

This is an older hotel on Powell, just up the street from Union Square. It's an ideal location for people that want to stay in the city. It's right on the cable car line. I had a room in the front so I could hear the cable car all night long until it stopped. They had a lovely reception with cookies and popcorn and I got a coupon for 2-for-1 drinks at the bar. The hotel overall is small, because it's from 1914! I enjoyed it and would stay there again.

The Chancellor Hotel had charm and the staff were very nice. Cookies, coffee/tea available in the lobby. Popcorn was made each evening. Alicia in the lounge was such a treasure - she took time to visit with us and make us feel very welcome. The hotel is close to the BART (which we took from the airport), the LRT and the cable cars. Union square is a block away. The room was small, but that’s to be expected in an old hotel. Everything worked well in the room. The mattress was possibly nearing its last days (our only negative in our whole stay). Lots of pubs/restaurants/bars in the vicinity. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Loved the location and quiet elegance. Five pillows to choose from. Also coffee available all day plus the best chocolate chip cookies I have eaten. A straight shot to Bart on Powell. Will always stay here when town.

This is a simple property that is clean and safe. The staff is very friendly. There is no air conditioning, So if that is a must, this would not be a good place for you to stay. Otherwise, I enjoyed my very much. Friendly front staff and bartender. The area around is clean and safe.

Stayed at the tail end of summer 2024. Decent-sized room for a solo traveller (or with a partner). It's got a bar in the lobby and it sits right on the Powell cable car. There's a Walgreens about 50 steps away and few lovely little diners within close walking distance. My room faced the west side, and I couldn't really hear the noise of Union Sq, and so it is a reasonably quiet night's rest. Clean room, comfy linens, courteous and professional staff. Would stay again.

The hotel is an historical property that dates from another era. The rooms are small, there is no a/c but they tell you this up front in their description. They do have everything you expect in a modern hotel - safe, wifi, cable, etc). Everything from the room to the service was immaculate. I would update the beds. I'm 6' and had to climb up onto a rather uncomfortable mattress. Nevertheless, I would stay here again in a second.

An older property but you would never know it. This property is incredibly clean and up-to-date. The staff from the check in desk to housekeeping were amazing. I would stay at The Chancellor again and would encourage travelers to stay here when visiting San Francisco.
