We booked this hotel for our 25th Anniversary, as I had proposed to my now wife in this hotel 27 years ago. And I wish I hadn’t booked it again. To say this it was better then, than it is now, grounds immaculate, the building looks tired and dull. The interior has been refreshed but to a poor standard. Check in was ok. Got to the room and the bathroom very small, when sitting on the toilet, and dirty tiles with black mould on the grouting. Very small samples of gel and shampoo. Not replaced during our 3 night stay, One plus, the room did have a good view of the grounds and lake. Breakfast, expected better, the cooked options were served by waiters and continental, help yourself. Food was dry and poor. Once we finally got it. We were shown to our table and the forgotten about and had to call waiters after 10 mins, just to get tea or coffee. On our 3 mornings greeted by different staff on each day. Only 2 staff on waiting and greeting, so many were just walking in a taking reserved tables, and then being shouted at to move, Grossly understaffed! On arrival back from days out, the bar is deserted no staff about to get a drink. Considering it close to £300 per room per night for this, don’t bother!
