Disappointing Check-In Experience on Christmas Eve Night**
I recently had the opportunity to stay at one of the more upscale hotels in Fort Lauderdale, excitedly treating myself for the holidays after a challenging time in my personal life. Unfortunately, my experience at check-in was far from what I had hoped for, especially given the resort industry's emphasis on customer service.
Upon arrival around 10 PM on Christmas night, I was greeted by a front desk attendant who sadly did not embody the warmth or hospitality one would expect from a luxury establishment. Despite my attempts to engage him with a smile and lighthearted conversation, he remained unresponsive and abrupt, which was disheartening after a long day of travel.
His comments were particularly discouraging. For instance, when discussing the hotel amenities, he bluntly informed me of the high price for bottled water without any courtesy or friendliness. I inquired about nearby stores where I could purchase water at a better price, and instead of assistance, I was met with a dismissive attitude. It felt as though I was a burden rather than a valued guest.
I understand that working in customer service can be challenging, especially during busy holidays, but a simple smile and a welcoming demeanor go a long way in making guests feel appreciated and comfortable. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling inadequate and frustrated. I think the Grinch that steals Christmas is working at this hotel.
