The hotel itself was very well presented on arrival, it has a locked gate that reception can buzz you in and during check in your given keys so can come and go as you please. Checking in was very quick and easy and like most buildings on the island had multiple levels but easy to navigate.
The room was a nice size and I had a lovely view of the city and mountains.
Breakfast was ready on time and never felt rushed.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, Alessandro on the front desk provided excellent information about good but not expensive restaurants, (3 courses and a beer for about 20 euro's), lots of information about the island, booked the tours which were collected at a pre arranged time at the bottom of the hill, about 5 minutes away.
The tours were very good for the most part, I wouldn't recommend the lava caves as nothing really note worthy about them, the East tour and West tours were very scenic and informative and I would highly recommend a Lavada walk (Aqueduct) to explore the centre of the island and see beautiful scenery. For the Lavada walk I would ask for advice if you suffer from vertigo and take a torch as some have low tunnels, but a good day out.
I would place Madeira with it's year round your temperate climate as a place of many things to see but not much to do. Good for a week to 10 day visit and very relaxing. I would also advise taking a hat as it's mainly sunny.
