Good location in Hilo and included breakfast. But the property is shabby, hot water is almost nonexistent, there is no soundproofing between rooms. Would not recommend

Have gone there for many years. Staff is great. Facility needs lots of work.
Wow, this is a difficult review. When we got there it was late, around midnight. Thefront doorwas locked and there was no bell or buzzer so we knocked a few times and afters few minutes a young lady came and opened fhe door.
She looked us up and said it was to late to checkin. After telling her mywife was pregnant and we needed our room she called her manager and they said ok.
She checked us in and gave us our room key. We had ordered a double room but the one we got only had a king bed which wasn't helpful as we also had kid's with us.
We brought it up and she said it was the only room they had and the only double was taken. She gae us a rollaway bed which barely fit in the room.
When we went to take a shower we discovered that our room had NO hot water. We went to the desk and we were told that it can take a while and to run the hot. Water for 20 or so minutes. We let it run for 30 and no ht water. I think this is a horrible waste of water and money.
We told them the hot water ever showed up and they said they have two communal baths in the lobby that have hot water. So we all headed up there just to find luke warm water in oe shower and a little warmer in the other.
The place was clean, no bugs, no bad smells and clean linens.
The building is in serious disrepair but it was the one thing i ejoyed.
Thetrue to hawaii visual experience was great and the landscaping was beautiful.
I wouldnt stayhere again if i need hot water.
In the first room there were major structural problems. Beams were rotting and being held up by paint. The floor bent and creaked. The plumbing couldn’t even do a full flush. I was glad no bed bugs but there were broken windows and a heavy mildew smell.
This place was horrible. Poor lighting. No AC. Dirty Rooms. told it takes 10-15 minutes to heat up water so if we needed hot water sooner, they offered a public shower on the main floor. I did not stay here! Checked out right after I checked in.
Down the creek stairs, and once you get past the construction site, you can make your way to the room. Not a bad size. I wouldn’t say it felt “clean” but tried to have a shower and it pretty much “spat” at me. Was told I could go back up stairs to shower up there.nno thanks.
The noise… all night the birds or whatever just drove me insane! So loud!!
The “continental breakfast” was a begal or a small stoggy blueberry muffin. Some dodge looking egg. No coffee but creamer out for coffee. Weird.
For the price, and I somehow paid a lot less than “advertised” on a special deal. It was still 3 times more than what I’d have wanted to pay.
Felt like living in a jungle. Flies, bugs, spiders, even a lizard in the room. Towels were dirty and stained, amenities were expired, no hot water when showering. There was mold on the breakfast food items and coffee machine was not working and didn't have coffee available last 4 days out of 7 days stay.

The building is clean but old, the roof can use a good cleaning and fresh paint. No issue with hot water for shower. Breakfast is ok, fresh fruit, bagel, muffins.
Lovely staff who were very helpful. The property was built in 1920 by the grandfather of the young lady who managed the hotel during our visit. She told us that plans are being made to refurbish the hotel. We stayed in the ocean view room where the views are stunning. The hotel does need some modenisation in some parts.
This is an old property that is a great retreat in spite of it's foibles. Three years ago when I stayed he my concern was the safety of the neighborhood. There has been a remarkable change for the better. For the price you can't beat it. The staff is wonderful.
