I have never written a review before, but this stay was bad enough that I hope others choose a different hotel.
From the moment we arrived, the experience went downhill. The front desk clerk was missing for several minutes and came back smelling strongly of marijuana. Check-in was unprofessional, and he blasted loud music while “finishing” our reservation. We were told valet allowed one vehicle access per day, yet on the third day they refused to bring the car at all. When they finally did, they assumed we were checking out and deactivated our room keys, forcing us to ride the single working elevator back to the 32nd floor only to find we were locked out again. At times, none of the elevators worked, and hauling luggage that far was ridiculous.
The room was clean but tiny for the price. Housekeeping repeatedly tried to enter despite the “do not disturb” sign, once opening the door while we were in the shower. The in-room safe was unsecured and swung open hard enough to split my scalp. During checkout, valet took nearly two hours, handed me the wrong keys, and later returned my actual vehicle with fresh scratches on the side. Breakfast was overcrowded, seating was scarce, and roaches were visible near the dining area.
Management took my number but has not contacted me about the damage or any reimbursement.
Do not stay here. Spend your money elsewhere. New York is fine. This Holiday Inn Express is not.
