Windows could use an upgrade! Noise made it hard to sleep. Hopefully when you remodel the rest of the property.

this business operates as both a hotel and event venue. our room was directly across the hallway from the open rooftop which on both nights of our stay hosted weddings. one evening the music/crowd noise was loud but tolerable, the other night it was bass-heavy dance music and we felt like we were staying in a nightclub. hotel staff acknowledged it was extremely loud but would not take any action. the single hotel elevator broke during our stay and we were charged $5/bottle for bottled water present in the room without any notice they were not free amenities. worst hotel experience of my life.

The location is two steps to La Jolla Cove beach and walks. Weddings on both nights of our stay and the loud party music played on the hotel rooftop patio till 9 PM surprised us a bit. Now we know. This area is very trendy for weddings. The front desk responds to the requests in a reasonable time. Our room had no heat the first night, so the hotel gave us a small portable heater. Although our room is spacious and has an ocean view, a $ 456-a-night room and any hotel room needs essential warmth. I hope this hotel hospitality department will prepare for the subsequent guests with this cooperation or repair the room's heating unit. The hotel is outdated in 2/3 of its facilities and has one new building with new rooms; thus, you see different ratings. Ensure you get a room that fits your expectations.

ONLY stay on the renovated side
Be careful when booking this hotel. Part of the hotel is renovated, but the other part is a run down motel badly in need of renovations/updates. Our "traditional suite" was accessible by a dark creepy hallway, had broken blinds, old and dingy carpets/furniture/tile, beyond outdated appliances etc. Even the pictures online of the "traditional" rooms do not show how old and dingy these rooms truly are. The rooms/suites on this side of the hotel should not be available to book, especially at over $400/night, until they are also renovated and updated. We requested a room change and the staff was helpful and able to move us to the renovated side of the hotel. However, we had to cram our family of 5 into a small king room for a night. We ended up buying air mattresses to make it work as that was still a better option than the outdated and dingy suite. You can't beat the location and the staff was friendly but the hotel needs to stop booking the motel 6 style rooms.

Has to be the worst dump in La Jolla. The property has more updated rooms, but Expedia guests are given old, dark, tiny rooms with not even a box of tissue. If there are areas like those pictured on website, they were not for Expedia guests. So disappointed. First room given us was so small the only chair was worn out wicker OUTSIDE on deck. 22 outside steps from the car. Too dangerous to carry luggage to room. Had to go off property, around the block and through an alley between two stores to our parking spot. ln alley, had to get out of car to move trash can. second room: Stove broken, furniture worn and so uncomfortable, Sink rusted out. Had to call maintenance for a bathtub plug. TV remote impossible to figure out, no instructions. Tiny old microwave..Ice box was so small, only held 2 bottles of water. Had to call maintenance for a roll of paper towels. Please give me some sort of refund. Almost $900 gone and unhappy memories of entire stay.

The 'double ocean view' was as far from the photo in the picture as you can imagine - yes you could see the ocean, but the balcony was surrounded by walls on both sides, getting narrower as you looked towards the sea, so it felt more like being in some sort or prison cell. The cleaners worked diligently to keep the property clean outside (eg sweeping everywhere). But the hotel itself is old and dilapidated and in dire need of renovation. Would not recommend.

There is a new part of the hotel and old part. We stayed at the old part. We did have an ocean view room so that was great. The location was excellent. Everything else was terrible. The old part is old and dirty. We had pubic hairs that were not ours all over the bathroom. It was like they were sprinkled there. Our friends that stayed had ants in their bathtub. It became a running joke on how many ants they would see at any given time. The noise level was too much. People opening other hotel doors woke you up. There was constantly a party with music blaring on the rooftop, which made it difficult to sleep. The beds were hard, but that was the least of the worries. Would I stay here again? For sure not in the old part. No way.

Very old and in need of a remodel. Doors barely close. You can hear everything and everyone around you. Shower temperature would change if anyone in the building flushes. Great location, but otherwise not a good experience.

We were in town for a weddings. I got a room with an ocean view. It was beautiful. We could hear sea lions, and see dolphins jumping. The wedding was on the rooftop, so it was very convenient.

I really love this hotel as it overlooks the water and gives you roll out of bed access to the cove you can open the door and hear the sea lions from your balcony. It’s easy for an Uber to pick you up from and take you down to the shores. This is my go to Spot in La Jolla.

We had a "terrace" ocean view room. There are multiple different areas of this hotel and they are all quite different. It's like the hotel has expanded over the years by buying up adjacent properties. The Pines building is newest and recently remodeled. The Shores building is right next to it and looks a little more dated from the outside. Both of those buildings have ocean views that are unobstructed, right across the street from the park. The terrace area is up higher on the hill and a collection of what seem like suites, with most having an ocean view. While they do have a great ocean view there is quite a bit of the hotel and like roofs in the foreground, so it's not like just the ocean expanse. The terrace rooms are much more dated. Everything was clean and functional but felt like a motel room from the 70s. The beds/mattresses were new and nice. The tradeoff is that you do get a broad ocean view and a gigantic patio and like twice the amount of room (living room and bedroom) for the same price that other hotels in the area are offering just a small queen room with maybe an ocean view. The other good thing about the terrace area is that it's actually right off Prospect st, the parking is accessible from prospect so it's actually a much shorter walk to shops/food/etc from these rooms. A slightly longer walk down to the park/beach.
