The rooms were spacious and clean with super comfortable beds. The gentleman who checked us in late at night was great and escorted us to our room, chatting personably along the way. The courtyard was so beautiful and a tranquil oasis in the middle of busy Los Angeles, we couldn't wait to get back after our days out.

There are, unfortunately, not enough characters in this box, to tell what happened during my second visit at this hotel. Little head’s up, they book out large parties of screaming teenagers to the entire property and the only warning given to guests is on a little piece of paper when you check in sitting on the front counter. If you are like me, and check-in in the evening, you get zero forewarning. We know these things book out months in advance. TV and safe broken. Fridge pooling water on the floor. To the rude female concierge that “helped” me, great job. I left the same night. Never again.

Really nice property. Great location as well with the original farmers market and the grove on its doorstep. Clean stylish rooms and fairly quiet - given the location! Just the occasional road noise in our room on the top floor at the rear of the property.

This is a motel basically that has been fixed up into a boutique type LA vibe style suited to younger couples and young families. Friendly staff. Expensive for what you get. Bed is comfortable but you just get a basic coffee in the morning. The restaurant was closed when we arrived so our “free welcome drink” was a voucher for the mini bar. My husband opened one cocktail can and they still charged us 15.00 Convenient location close to automobile museum. I thought it was far too pricey for what we got.

Cute boutique hotel. I was surprised at how quiet my room was despite being so close to a busy road. Though the double queen room wasn't that big, it was comfortable. It had a retro feel to the decor and I appreciated the different lighting options available. Shower was hot and had amazing pressure. Loved the recessed shelf to put my shower essentials. I wasn't a fan of paying for valet only parking at $45/ night for such a small parking lot. I literally had to walk past my vehicle that had been parked in front of my room, to retrieve it up front from the valet. Great location and able to walk across the street to the Farmers Market. Plenty of walkable attractions in the area. Easy to navigate and get in and out of. Although it was limited, I didn't get the warmest feeling from the staff. Just didn't seem very engaging at all. I expected better personalized service from such a small establishment, especially for the cost.

What a gem in downtown LA! Amazing (walkable) location, a wonderful warm vibe from a friendly and fun hotel team who know how to make guests feel welcome. Thoughtful amenities abound, and there is a peaceful and charming lobby courtyard. I have found my new go-to LA oasis. Thank you, Short Stories!

We had the Simon suite. It was spacious, clean and had a lot of interesting books to look at. Unfortunately we didn't have time to look at them as we had lots of plans for our trip to LA. AC worked well. Shower power was good but shower head placement was not. Not a lot of amenities, but plenty of mini bar goodies if you're into that. We're not. Luckily there's a trader Joe's super close so you can buy regular priced snacks and drinks. Frig in room, but space taken up by their mini bar items. Coffee and tea downstairs was lackluster. Hot water for tea was cold. No half and half only lf milk. Would be nicer and seems pretty standard nowadays to have coffee/tea tray in one's room. Also, if you're an Orbits VIP, you'll have to inquire about your amenities as they will not automatically give them to you. Overall, our room was comfortable and was convenient to the locations we were planning to visit.

Can't wait to come back here! Perfectly located for the farmers markets, other dining, shops and the Academy Museum. Also gorgeous decor - my only feedback is that curtains should be added on top of the blinds as LA really doesn't switch off and my room was always very bright overnight.

Sweet Stay at Short Stories
Short Stories has a fun, retro vibe. The hotel has a lovely courtyard and it is a relaxing respite after travels around the city. The beds are so comfy and the rooms quite clean. The cons include that the AC goes off when it reaches the designated temperature and then, back on which can be annoying for sensitive sleepers. Also, not much storage space and no racks to put luggage on so it must lay on the floor. If you can deal with those things, it is definitely worth it!
