It seems that some places use the prestige of their' location to their' justify prices and then skimp put on their hospitality and professionalism. This place is one of them. Great location obviously, in the heart of downtown Carmel, and very affordable for the area. But looking back now, the price was still a little more than what you get out of it.
FIRST OFF: The first two night were fine and quiet only because we came on a Thursday, the room was cute and we were relocated to naother room because ours was not ready. The room was just above the check in office. BIG MISTAKE, im not sure if they are new owners or dont understand the hospitality industry but the people who ran it also live there apparently, and any room located near the office will smell like, well no better way to put this, like an "exotic" food restaurant all night. They cook down stairs and do not have proper ventilation for anything.
SECOND: Rooms that are not occupied by guest are used for what I assume is the family members or co-workers of the people who run it, they have extremely loud conversations all the way until 1am at one point. There is no awareness of the noise they are making and also play their own personal music very loud you can here it through the rooms. ADVICE? Get a room far away from the Check in office if you can.
FINALLY: Take a photo of things in the room because they take a card for incidentals and the rooms are cute Victorian style furnisings but very old and worn out
