This place is very cute and comfortable and in a wonderful location right in the middle of North Beach and all its great shops and Italian bakeries, cafes, and restaurants. The room was small but comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. There is no front desk service but when I had some questions they were quick to respond to email, text, and phone call. I would definitely stay here again!
At first I was unsure but after downloading App Onekey everything was good
Bit a noise hallway and street .
I like the location definitely will come back
Location so close to almost everything
The Washington Square Inn is in a great location for both the immediate North Beach neighborhood, and getting around San Francisco. It's an unattended property, so there is really no "staff or service" to mention. It's also basically an older building, but in decent shape. My wife and I feel like it's one of the nicest bargain stays in SF.
My wife and I stayed here 3 times in the last 2 weeks as we were traveling around the state and Oregon. It is now our go to place to stay in San Francisco. It is located in the best location, exactly where we want to be.
This is a contact-less hotel. We like the simplicity of getting in the hotel and downloading our key. We have appreciated early check-in both times we have stayed at this hotel. We loved our large room the first time we stayed. This time, though, our room was very tiny.

The hotel was clean but the rooms were a bit small. The toilet would make noise when flushing and the noise wouldn’t stop.
Couldn’t lock room door so texted and rang 24/7 numbers for assistance, but no answer or response received. Television had essentially no reception, fan/light didn’t respond to controller.
Disappointing.
My wife and I had an unpleasant experience during our recent stay in Room 10 at The Washington Square Inn (05/30 - 06/03/24).
- The bathroom sink cold water faucet did not function.
- The sink hot water faucet had no stop position.
- We could not control the overhead fan and light other than to turn it on or off.
- One of the two windows did not stay open. This was a comfort situation as the room was uncomfortably warm during mid-day.
- Some of the dresser drawers did not open all the way.
- The shower faucet did not work.
These issues were reported. But only the shower problem was addressed. We were inconvenienced by having to move out of our room overnight to fix the shower; then had to return to our room the next day (moving all our belongings back and forth).
Also, my wife saw a mouse on the neighboring wall. Since our windows had no screens, we were reluctant to leave the windows open.
We've stayed at The Washington Square Inn a number of times over the last few years. We've always enjoyed our experience in the past. We especially like the location and the attractive decor and cleanliness of the hotel. However, our experience during this last visit overshadowed these positive attributes.
This hotel has no staff on site. But they answer texts quickly and you check in electronically. Rooms are dated but very cute. The bed and pillows were comfortable. And you in a safe area and close to tons of restaurants and sites. Also the park across the street is pretty and we could see Coit Tower from our room. Windows open for fresh air.
