I knew when booking this property that it was a budget hotel and I adjusted my expectations accordingly. With an overall rating of 7.2 on Expedia, I thought how bad can it be? Even though I read some very poor reviews, I brushed them off as people who just didn’t know what to expect in a larger city.
Expedia friends, please listen to the poor reviews. We stayed for two nights in December which we prepaid and immediately regretted this decision. We were given a room on the bottom floor (basement) and I only wish a picture could capture the smell. It was a very strong mix of damp, mouldy basement and seemly cat urine. It was incredibly strong and even opening the windows didn’t help. There were stains on the carpets and bedding. There was mould in the walls and even the door handle to our room was broken with only the lock to keep the door closed. Many other things were broken or non functioning as well.
Other weird things:
- they require a deposit if you want a tv remote or remote for the heat/ac unit.
- they want you to leave the key when you head out for the day with no ID check when you stop at the desk to pick it up.
- towels only refreshed every three days
I can’t comment on the included continental breakfast as we were so disgusted by our room that we didn’t bother checking it out.
The only positive I can give is the location. It’s close to Earls court tube station and walking distance to some museums & restaurants. But there are better places to stay in the area
Hotel was over all just bad, I’m happy I only needed a place to sleep for a few hours because it felt unsafe, the walls were extremely dirty and you could hear everything, bathroom was horrible were the tiles were not glued down so they would move and everything was dirty. I have never left a review so bad before but this place is a true trap that should be shut down!
Staff were really friendly and breakfast was fine.
Hotel very much in need of refurb, room was shabby, carpet threadbare in places, furniture had bits missing, base of bed in two pieces not joined together, toilet roll holder missing, air conditioning not working properly - it was advertised as an executive room - no way!
However, convenient for our trip
Me, my mum and sister all shared a triple room at Hotel Oliver. We stayed in room 112 and it was amazing value! The room was super spacious, clean, it had everything we needed, and the bathroom was modern and spotless! There was plenty of sockets and storage units. The only very small con would be the bed sizes were quite small but that wasn’t a major issue as we only stayed the one night but they were comfortable and there was spare pillows/blankets. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend staying in this hotel!
Room had a strong odour, a bit like a wet dog. Cotton buds with earwax in the bathroom bin. Decor very dated and in need of sprucing up but the bed was comfortable.
Executive room quite tired and run down, mattress was terrible, might as well not have been one, no hand towels in the room. Had to leave a cash deposit at reception for tv remote and air con remote. Tv was about 20" Tiny. Breakfast was hilarious. The waitress just bought everything to our table regardless of whether we wanted it. Film wrapped cheese (like the single slices you have with burgers). Breakfast was very sparce. We will certainly not be returning.
After our previous trip where the elevator was not working, the manager remembered us and gave us a ground floor room. This was typical service from a well run and friendly establishment. We have stayed there 3 times and will again on our next trip to UK.
