My initial welcome was friendly, I was handed a reheated cookie as a welcome and told I was being put on the 7th floor with a canal view (this was said in a way to make me think my room was special). The room was a good size and had clearly been recently returned. Then the drilling noise started. I soon worked out it was coming from the room directly above me. This noise wasn't just a background irritation, it was so loud that it was unbearable. I kept hoping it would stop, because who on earth would put someone in a room directly below that kind of noise if it was going to go on for more than 5 minutes (and especially not telling them about it in advance)? After thirty minutes of this noise pollution, I went back down to reception to explain that I needed to make work calls and when would the dreadful noise stop. The same receptionist who booked me in simply said "it will stop soon" as though this was a perfectly normal occurrence, no apology no offer of a different room. I even had to press as to when "soon" was, which she then confirmed would be 5pm. So, a whole hour of this horrendous noise was seen as a perfectly acceptable experience that guests should endure!
Other unredeeming features include, terrible air conditioning where you can't actually set a temperature, just pick from 5 colours. The fans are inefficient on the lowest setting, but unbelievably loud on anything that will be effective in the room. Area has no character, lifts are slown and staff are unfriendly.
