Certain charm property but very dated. Bed ok but too soft. Low water pressure. Friendly staff.

Has to navigate multiple sets of stairs. The lift was not working, but our room was not accessible by lift. Shower was a bit slippery and had no grab bars. It was a very old hotel and the attabhed bar was quaint and quirky. was

A lot of noise from the muti storey car park opposite our room from 5am onwards which kept waking us up
Quaint hotel with old world charm. Rooms were clean with all amenities. The shower in a big soaker tub gave a bit of a challenge to us who have arthritic hips but worked well. Appreciated the added air conditioner to our room as it was very hot days while we visited. Enjoyed the "guest" bar at the front of the hotel...the full and continental breakfast feast was delicious and the staff treated us like family. Wonderful experience.!
Good location...staff friendly at check in. Elevator/lift broken so we had to walk upstairs. Not a big deal. However the staff used the same elevator to bring our bags up.
Room was about 40 degrees Celcius. One window opened 6 inches. The other bolted down.
Springs sticking out of bed.
Mold in shower and outside. Tiles broken off. Paint peeling.
Hardly slept because of the heat. Even though we had a fan.
Tried to get ice to have cold drinks to cool down. The bar would only give us the equivalent of a glass of ice.
Next time i would rent a car and park in a parking lot before i stayed here again.
Note-we stay in hotels around the world. Some great. Some not. This one ranks up there for bow bad it was. No neat. No elevator. Dirty and run down.
arrived June 28, 2025. old building built late 1700's. tiny rooms. leaning creaking floors and stair case. dirty bathroom. food crumbs on floor. elevator not working, room on fourth floor. manager assured me i would be refunded through expedia because of conditions i mentioned. refund has not occurred. expedia should be embaressed that they book this hotel. do not stay here.
I didn't know that the hotel didn't have air conditioning. Management did provide portable fans.
Breakfast was excellent and the hotel was clean. Elevator was not working which made access challenging but management did handle our luggage for us.
I didn't expect much and wasn't disappointed but for £130 for one night I would expect a lot better. On checking in the lift was notably out of service so I had to carry my luggage to the top floor on one of the hottest days of the year. The room had a feeling of never having been refurbished since the seventies. Lumpy walls papered over with peeling embossed wallpaper, no cohesive furnishing, dirty looking carpet over an expected creaking floor. Paintwork that hasn't been prepared or painted. Aircon; what aircon? A floor standing fan with an uninviting handwritten note stating "do not move". The bathroom; again stuck in time, no effort to make it presentable. The window covered in years of grime, an overall patina of sepia. The shower cubicle looked yellowed and scruffy, the only positive was a good powerful shower. The bathroom floor seemed to slope towards the window and was covered in a lumpy vinyl covering. Barely any flow from the cold water tap. Luckily I had earplugs to block the noise of the boy racers tearing up the high street. I awoke to the sound of four rough sleepers having a lovely chat in the shop doorway opposite. Finally I was greeted with indifference by the night receptionist as I checked out early the next morning. He saw me arrive at the desk yet remained relaxing on a sofa nearby only moving when I requested I wanted to leave some luggage. I feel for the American family who checked in just behind me. Welcome to the UK!
The property is in a central location in Southampton and the staff were polite. Internet was good.
Unfortunately my room was very small and had no desk to work at, not great if travelling for business. The bathroom was in very poor condition. Taps in the sink loose, the shower had been painted but mould was visible through the paint and the base of the door frame rotted. Shower pressure was poor. The bathroom window had a flimsy net curtain on it exposing occupants to being seen from outside. The TV in the room glitched every few seconds. The window in the room could not be closed. The worst aspect was that there is a pub from a well-known chain across the quadrangle on which the hotel is on two sides and in which is a car park. Intoxicated people made alot of noise until late (post midnight) as did users of the carpark. Particularly unpleasant were alcoholics / drug addicts at the entrance to the carpark next to the hotel carpark screaming obscenities at each other. Because of the state of the windows none of this could be shut out. A fan was provided but the room was still very hot but this was a very hot few days.
Good value for money, it maybe dated but the bed was very comfy, very clean and staff very welcoming. Luft out of service at the mo, so best suited if you are mobile or check with hotel first.
Great location in centre of town, 20 min walk from railway station.
Its close to Red Funnel Ferry and shopping centre. Very cheap bar. But hotel is very run down and tatty. Both rooms i stayed in stank of stale tobacco.
Great location, nearby shops, sites, restaurant and grocery stores. Historic. Breakfast buffet. Large room. Friendly, helpful staff. What more could you ask for?
