It was my first time staying at a hostel and I was so pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of my bunk and shower/ bathroom areas. The staff are lovely and the hostel itself is very close to Oji station and dining options. Would definitely stay here again when I return to Tokyo.
Overall was what I wanted. Safe, close to train and metro stations. Some dining options nearby. A lounge in the building which sounds like it has regular events. Also has advertised events to get together, meet people, and explore the city (which I didn't have time to try sadly). Also met some cool people from all over the world!
Only a few regrets i.e. front desk isn't always open (opens at 10 if I recall correctly). Only 1 washing machine, which might get inconvenient.
If you're looking for a hostel experience, this should do the trick!

Liked: Staff & service, amenities
i like the coffee lounge, however the room i stay got weird smell
We loved the large room which was clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Huge CR with separate toilet and shower with bathtub was a bonus. Nice local eateries around the area with a 711 nearby, and a big public park across the road. Easy 2-minute access to train and bus stations.
Pros :
-cheap
-easy access by metro
-good communal area
-clean
Cons:
-far from everything
- not much around
- the rooms are tiny
Just pay a tiny bit more and stay at a capsule hotel somrwere Central
The Tokyo Guest House is a great and affordable option for people traveling to Tokyo. It has rooms with private bathrooms that are large and very comfortable. The music lounge is another bonus, especially if you can play an instrument but didnt bring it with you because you are allowed to play the instruments they have. The staff is exceptional. They were always kind and courteous, went out of their way to solve problems, including rescheduling a tour we missed. I highly recommend the Tokyo guest house, and I hope to return in the future!
The hotel is simple, clean, near metro/train station.
The staff is great, always very helpful.
Breakfast is cooked to order. Wifi is great in lobby, not so much in the room i was in, but it was not too important for me. Would definitely stay there again.
The location only 5 min walking distance from nearest station. Since my trip with family of 4 persons, I'm reserved non smoking room for 4 person and it was amazing. The room is not small at all, with minimalize furniture but it was enough for us, clean room, clean private bathroom, and friendly helpfull staff which can speak english very well offering a help to us to explore Tokyo easier.
I had an amazing stay at this hostel! The design is very open and uses the space well. The location is nearby shops, food, ouji station, and shrines. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. The cafe has good coffee and breakfast and a nice atmosphere. Solo traveling friendly.
Will stay again!
Good location 5 mins uphill from Oji station. The Keihin-Tohoku line goes here from Tokyo station and is covered by the JR Pass, journey about 20 mins. Between Tokyo and Oji is Ueno and Akihabara stations so very convenient for these tourist spots. Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku are to the west of Tokyo station and more hassle to get to, you have options to get there with or without JR Pass lines.
Friendly staff with basic English skills. Small rooms with IKEA bunk beds that were a bit wobbly. The staff have attached little twin sockets to the headboard on each bed so you can charge your stuff while you sleep. Thin mattresses so some might find this uncomfortable. For those worried about public bathrooms, don't worry: They have individual "mini-rooms" for each shower cubicle so it's full privacy. Body Soap, Shampoo and Conditioner are provided. You get one towel on check-in. Getting a new towel costs extra.
Humble breakfast that swaps between Western and Japanese-style each morning. I supplemented with onigiri from the NewDays "konbini" store at Oji station. The French Toast was pretty good actually.
There are no security lockers so either take your valuables with you or lock them in your bag. General security is locking your dorm door on your way out.
Fully recommend this for the budget traveller.
Every morning we had a different breakfast which consisted of rice balls or sandwich and a soup. Also you have a choice of coffee or tea. The front desk spoke English which was a great plus. The first floor is a lounge area where you can order drinks, access the internet on their computers, and read some of their travel books. Sometimes they even have bands play there. There is also a washing machine if needed. The front desk is closed after 11 or 12 but you can still enter through the side of the building with an access code. The room was very clean and the bed was super comfy. We had our own private bathroom which was nice. Each floor has its own Wi-Fi. The WiFi on the floor can be spotty when you’re laying in the beds since it’s almost like being in a cave. The hostel itself was less then a 10 minute walk from Oji station, which has both metro and JR access.
The guesthouse is in a quiet area but but only 5 minutes walk from Ouji JR.station - from where you can easily access to any place in Tokyo. The room is clean. We stayed in a Japanese style room with a nice deep bathtub. We enjoyed the stay. However, I wished the a mini fridge and a electric pot in the room. The free breakfast that changes the menu everyday was good. I will recommend this guesthouse to others.
