This VRBO unit is a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. As you step out of this spacious unit you have an excellent view of Diamond Head, the extinct volcano. After a tiring flight and long wait for our luggage at Honolulu Airport, we arrived at our apartment complex on Kalakaua Ave. The first obstacle were the many lockboxes by the stairwell. We finally found our assigned number and obtained our key fob. Going into our unit was another obstacle as our assigned code to the door access didn't work. We called for assistance and the lock was reprogrammed and the situation was resolved quickly
This unit is fairly quiet and spacious for two people. The air conditioners are outdated and probably need to be replaced. They quickly cool the apartment but are loud. If you're a light sleeper, that may be a concern. There is the occasional loud motorcycle and trash truck passing by, but the many unique birds singing in the morning also let us know they were nearby. Spectacular sunsets were easy to watch by going to the first floor and watching from the small beach access available to the complex residents.
The unit has a powerful shower head, so much so that the shower curtain has a difficult time staying in place and blows with the wind created by the volume of water coming down. An adjustable flow shower head would be much appreciated. The kitchen is adequate for cooking simple meals but the pots and pans were stacked haphazardly, not at all stacked like the photo in the VRBO ad. One thing to be aware of, some of the dishware are NOT microwave safe! Additional kitchen towels would have been welcome as well. We only had one kitchen towel and had to use one of the bathroom hand towels.
Overall, the unit was clean, but a little outdated. It was quiet, except for the air conditioners.
